Where are the best job opportunities and highest salaries in Spain?

08/22/2014 | Europa Press – Europa Press English

Knowing where there are opportunities to get a job and where the expectations are highest regarding wages are two things to consider when looking for a job, especially for those who are able to move to a different area. A study published last week by Adecco allows job-seekers to look at both variables to answer the question posed in the title of this news story.

In the following graph, you can see results from crossing the ranking of employment opportunities from the Adecco Monitor, put together by this human resources company with researchers at Barceló and Associates using first semester data, with wages levels that are received in each Autonomous Community.

As seen in the graph, the Communities of Madrid and the Basque Country jump out in both variables, while Extremadura, Andalusia and the Canary Islands produced the worst results. GRAPH

In order to establish the job opportunity ranking, the authors of the study took three variable into account: the number of business per 1,000 inhabitants, the unemployment rate and the percentage of qualified employment.

This map shows the job opportunities in greater detail. The darker the green is, the higher is the level of employment opportunity. MAP

Madrid, the Basque Country and La Rioja, respectively, are the Autonomous Communities that offer the best job opportunities, compared to Andalusia, Extremadura and the Canary Islands had the lowest amounts of opportunities to find a job, according to the Adecco Monitor.

In general, the opportunities to find a job have increase in almost all Communities compared to the same semester last year, with the only exception coming from Castille and Leon.

The decrease in the unemployment rate is one of the reasons why the scores have improved. If a year ago the unemployment rate was growing in every Community, now ten of them are showi
ng a decrease.

Where can you earn the most?
In terms of remuneration, on this map you can see the ranking made by companies from the date base of the Spanish Statistical Office (INE). The darker the blue is, the higher are the employees´ average salaries. MAP

The Basque Country leads the ranking in remuneration and Extremadura is at the end of the line. Even though the average Spaniard´s salary (1,634 a month) has been reduced 0.1% compared to the second quarter of 2013 (leading to a loss of 2 euros every month), Extremadura, the Balearic Islands, Castille and Leon and Catalonia were hit by the worst reductions upwards of 1%.

The Adecco Monitor offers quarterly data on the degree of job satisfaction and analyzes a series of variables for this, such as: remuneration, job security, employment and professional development opportunities, professional and personal life conciliation and labor disputes.

The regions that obtained the highest marks by the Monitor (considering all the variables) are Madrid, Navarra and the Basque Country while the worst marks were received by the Canary Islands, Asturias and Extremadura.

According to Adecco, during the second quarter every Community lowered the number of short-term workers without a job on a year-to-year basis while, at the same time the number of long-term unemployed (more than two years without a job) workers increase. In total, there are around 2.4 million people in Spain who have been unemployed for more than two years, almost 40% the total unemployed.
