Government believes EuroVegas will benefit Spain´s “brand”

07/15/2013 | Europa Press – Europa Press English

The secretary of state for tourism, Isabel Borrego, affirmed on Monday that the macro project EuroVegas that American casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson is trying to build in Madrid “will benefit Spain´s brand” just like “anything that brings in tourism,” she claimed.

In her opinion, tourists “that come to see the casino complex will be able to visit other destination” in Spain as well.

According to Borrego, the type of tourist that will come to EuroVegas will be “from the middle class” and will come back “for other types of tourism,” she declared to the press before participating in the summer courses at San Lorenzo de El Escorial in Madrid.

The head of Tourism also has forecast good results of the summer tourist season thanks to the increase in the number of international visitors, already three points higher than last year, with an 8% increase in spending. “It´s going to be a good summer,” she proclaimed.

“After seeing the data on international tourism in 2012 with almost 58 million tourists, the prospects for 2013 reveal even better data, not just in the number of tourists but also in spending,” she explained.

However, she did recognize some “clouds on the horizon” for the summer season because of a decrease in local tourism, “which is less pronounced that what was previously thought,” she explained, while the Ministry of Tourism is promoting the summer campaign with the slogan “España, el destino que llevas dentro” (Spain, the destination you can feel inside).
