España puede captar inversiones de fondos soberanos internacionales haciendo valer su atractivo como puerta a Latinoamérica para los fondos en general y como puerta de Europa para los nuevos fondos africanos. Así lo asegura el informe de fondos soberanos 2012, el primero que se realiza en España, elaborado por Icex-Imvest in Spain, Esadegeo y KPMG. En España, los fondos soberanos, actualmente sobre todo procedentes de Oriente Medio, están reflejando interés por compañías españolas con fuerte presencia en América Latina o con elevada especialización a fin de fijar intereses estratégicos, financieros y de diversificación de su cartera de negocios, según el estudio. En la presentación del documento en Barcelona, el director general de Estrategia y Desarrollo de Gas Natural Fenosa, Antonio Basolas, ha señalado que los fondos árabes y africanos están buscando especialmente inversiones en recursos naturales o en la tecnología y el “know how” para explotarlos para adquirir un conocimiento que ahora no tienen. El secretario de Estado de Comercio, Jaime García-Legaz, ha explicado que el Gobierno está trabajando para atraer inversiones de los principales fondos soberanos del mundo, para lo que ha apuntado que «ahora es el momento», tras disiparse las dudas sobre la supervivencia del euro y tras realizar en el país reformas como la laboral –para flexibilizar el mercado de trabajo— y la financiera, que han cambiado la situación de la economía española y mejorado las previsiones, que apuntan a la vuelta al crecimiento en 2014. Ha indicado que ahora es tiempo de explicar la solvencia de España, su mejora de la competitividad, conseguida «a marchas forzadas», su potencia exportadora –cada vez más fuera de Europa– y su fortaleza financiera, reduciendo el endeudamiento privado y el déficit público, es decir, devolviendo la deuda acumulada en años anteriores. «Todavía no vemos el crecimiento, pero la economía española es ahora mucho más sólida que en 2007, cuando tenía los pies de barro», ha señalado, y ha añadido que las reformas estructurales van a continuar, con ejemplos como la Ley de Garantía de Unidad de Mercado impulsada ahora por el Gobierno. FINANCIACIÓN CHINA Ha añadido que los fondos chinos también e CÓMO CAPTAR INVERSIONES También se pueden aprovechar las inversiones de fondos en los clubes de fútbol españoles y sus visitas a partidos para fortalecer las relaciones de largo plazo manteniendo contacto periódico con los gestores y propietarios de los fondos soberanos. Otra propuesta es convertir las escuelas de negocio en un referente para la formación de gestores de fondos soberanos, así como establecer relaciones de cooperación internacional entre las instituciones españolas y los fondos soberanos para llevar a cabo operaciones de inversión de forma conjunta en determinadas regiones, como América Latina, donde España tiene experiencia e influencia. |

Spain can capture sovereign wealth funds (SWF) investments using its traditional role as a gateway to Latin America for these funds in general, and as an access point to Europe for the new African SWFs. So says the 2012 Sovereign Wealth Funds Report, the first focused on Spain, elaborated by Icex-Imvest in Spain, Esadegeo y KPMG. In Spain, sovereign wealth funds, nowadays coming more and more from the Middle East, are showing interest in Spanish companies, with a high presence in Latin America or that are highly specialised, for the purpose of strategic, financial and diversification interests of their business portfolio, according the study. During the presentation of the study in Barcelona, managing director of Strategy and Development of Gas Natural Fenosa, Antonio Basolas, indicated that the Arabic and African funds are looking for investments in natural resources or in technology and the “know how” to exploit them in order to acquire the knowledge they are lacking. The Secretary of State for Trade, Jaime García-Legaz, explained that the Government is working to attract world´s most important SWFs, saying that “now is the time”, after doubts about the euro´s survival are gone and the new financial and labour reforms –making the labour market more flexible– have changed the Spanish economic situation and improved the forecasts which are pointing to return to growth in 2014. He indicated that it´s now time to explain Spanish solvency, its improvement in competitiveness achieved at “top speed”, its exporting power –increasingly beyond the EU– and its financial strength while also reducing private and national debt, that is to say, paying back debt it´s accumulated over the years. “Even though we still don´t see growth, the Spanish economy now is stronger than in 2007, when it had feet of clay”, he remarked, and added that structural reforms are going to continue, for example the Uni CHINESE FUNDING He has added that Chinese funds are arriving in Europe too, and that this can be an opportunity for Spain, which in 2011 received investments –in local companies or overseas subsidiaries– of 8.5 billion dollars in foreign funds, more than 50% of the eurozone total, ahead of Germany, France and England. HOW TO CAPTURE INVESTMENTS Additionally, visits to football games by SWF managers with investments in Spanish football teams can be used to strengthen long term relations while maintaining periodic contact between investors and CEOs. Another proposal is to make business schools a benchmark in training SWF managers, and to set up cooperative relations between Spanish institutions and national funds to implement joint investment operations in specific regions, like in Latin America, where Spain has experience and influence. |
