Brazil has received one third of the total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2013 with 60.046 billion dollars, an amount that surpasses Mexico, which received 38.286 billion dollars and was the second highest amount. A total of 184.920 billion dollars in FDI was put into Latin America and the Caribbean coming mainly from Europe, Asia and the U.S., according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

For the second year in a row, FDI stayed stable in Brazil with a slight increase of 2.3 percent, compared to just a 1 percent increase in 2012. Furthermore, the most pro
fitable sectors in 2013 were the automotive sector with 3.29 billion dollars in profit,
the beverage sector brought in 2.84 billion dollars, the financial services sector captures 1.9 billion, the retail sector had 1.68 billion dollars and the telecommunications sector had 1.66 billion dollars.

In Brazil almost every sector of the economy is open to FDI. The natural resource sector showed recovery because of an expansion in the oil business that received 10.892 billion dollars, almost double what it had received the year before. Mining captured 3.343 billion dollars and the agro-fishing sector grew but didn´t go over 1 billion dollars.

Also, the service sector suffered a slight reduction because of a lack of big economic deals made in the telecom and finance sectors. However, FDI put into commerce grew thanks to improvements in transport and there was a small decrease in the manufacturing sector because of problems in the steel industry.
