The latest Economics Nobel winner, Robert Shiller, has warned about the formation of a new financial bubble in the stock market in New York and about a real-estate bubble in Brazil, which could cause problems worldwide.

“I´m not sounding the alarm yet, but the stock markets in several countries are at very high levels and market prices of properties have increased dramatically. This could turn out badly,” said Shiller in an interview published in the German magazine “Der Spiegel”.

“What worries me most is the “boom” in the U.S. stock market. I´m also worried because our economy is still weak and vulnerable,” he explained. Shiller specifically said that the financial and technology sectors were the most overvalued.

The Nobel Prize winner also mentioned the “drastic” increase in prices in the housing market during the last five years in Brazilian cities like Río de Janeiro or Sao Paulo. “There I felt like I did in the U.S. in 2004,” he said. “Bubbles happen like this and the world is still very vulnerable to bubbles,” he warned.

Shiller was given the prestigious award together with two other Americans for their work on market prices and asset bubbles.
