10 tips on where to invest you money in 2015

01/29/2015 | Europa Press – Europa Press English

This year´s started with important economic news stories from world regions on the rise and this can condition the different options there are for investing that are available in the market. The ECB, after months of rumors, has announced its famous QE to inject liquidity into the eurozone, while economic growth in the U.S. will make the Federal Reserve increase interest rates sometime in 2015.

Financial advice director at BNP Paribas Wealth Management, Gonzalo Murcia, sees economic disparities continuing from where they started in 2014. In this current situation, he distinguished between the investment opportunities for those with defensive profiles and some possibilities for those who are willing to take on more risk.

1.- THE UNIVERSE OF BONDS

Within the bond arena, BNP recommends “high yield” European and American corporate bonds. In this area, the financial entity is confident in these products because of increase in interest rates in the U.S. will probably be gradual and would start from very low levels.

In any case, he recommends investing through investment funds in order to reap the benefits of an adequate diversification, although he says that investors with a taste for more risk can also opt for direct investments by using a “buy and maintain” strategy.

Within that group, the financial group says emerging bonds in international currencies and convertible European bonds are good options over the next few months.

2.- THE ATRACTIVENESS OF DIVIDENDS

The different massive purchasing strategies started by big central banks like the Fed or the ECB have taken yields to a historic minimum, which means there are few opportunities for fixed earnings. In the light of this situation, BNP says that investors needing to create earnings should look to another type of asset class.

Therefore, what´s becoming more important are securities that offer safe and growing dividends. However, given their volatility, they should be used to diversify and not as a single alternative.

Murcia also mentioned Real Estate Investment Trust (REITs) companies because they offer liquidity and active management.

3.- FLEXIBLE INVESTMENT SOLUTIONS

BNP also recommends Relative Value strategies because they allow you to obtain earnings even with a context of rising interest rates and profitability from bonds. Furthermore, he sees interesting investment opportunities in long/short equity investment strategies when a neutral approach is taken with respect to variable yield markets.

4.- TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DOLLAR´S STRENGTH

Lately, we´ve seen the euro depreciating against the dollar and this opens a whole new gambit of investment possibilities. Therefore, Murcia recommends looking for stocks that are helped by a strong dollar and a weak euro.

In that sense, he recommends on one hand to invest in American businesses that might try to take over undervalued European businesses because of the currency and, on the other, European stocks that might be favored because of the dollar´s evolution.

Among those in the first group, the analyst mentioned the following sector: pharmaceutical, basic foodstuffs, automotive, telecom and banking. Among those sectors in Europe, he mentioned: Healthcare, Semiconductors, consumption and Technology.

5.- BUSINESS INVESTING

Another aspect to consider this year is capital investing or “capex”. BNP believes that there are favorable conditions for increasing investment levels. Therefore, they recommend playing around with this area with variable yields and are in favor of developed markets where this type of investment is set to jump after three years of being down.

6.- THE EUROPEAN RENAISSANSE

According to Murcia, the structural reforms put in place by European periphery countries, as well as the starting of QE by the ECB make it so there´s still “a lot of value” within the old continent, mainly because of the drop in petrol prices, the evolution of the dollar and the perspective that this situation will be here for a while.

7.- THE DEVELOPMENT OF EMERGING MARKETS

Although it´s true in the moment when the announcement was made that the Fed would stop its asset purchasing program some amount of instability was produced in emerging markets, BNP recommends paying special investment attention on developing countries.

In that sense the entity mentions the potential of China given the reforms the Asian giant´s leaders have announced in its administration and in the financial sector. Also, it mentions India and Mexico for their respective tax reforms, as well as Indonesia.

8.- INNOVATION TECHONOLGY

Given current reduced state of growth, many companies are making efforts to rationalize their costs and improve their margins. Therefore, BNP likes companies that offer innovative and effective solutions to their clients. Furthermore, it says externalization, clean energy, automatization and advanced technologies will be factors that will allow companies to meet their objectives.

9.- THE IMPACT OF AGING

Aging demographics is a cultural and long-term phenomenon. Therefore, the investment horizon will be put off for many market cycles. Therefore, it recommends Japan in the short-term but advised to cover for exposure to the yen for deflationary risks that are hanging on the currency.

10.- OPPORTUNITIES IN CURRENCY

The last piece of advice from BNP goes towards the opportunities to be found in currency. Along those lines, it mentions that the rise of the dollar will continue to be central in foreign exchange markets and there will be many more opportunities for investors within the eurozone than for investors in dollars.

Specifically, for investors in the eurozone it recommends the pound and Norwegian Krone for the more defensive investors and the Mexican peso and the Chinese yuan for those investor who´re a bit more dynamic. And for those investors based in dollars, it recommends the Chinese yuan and Mexican peso.
